Supporting Art Education in Colorado

YAM Flag Competition 2022-2023

To promote Youth Art Month, the primary requirement is to recreate the State Flag.

Using the national theme, "Community of Kindness," each state coordinates a flag design contest.

The winning design made into a flag for display in the Youth Art Month Museum at the National Art Education Association (NAEA) annual National Convention.

The Theme for 2022-2023 is
"Your Art. Your Voice."

  • Recommended artwork size (not required): 6 inches by 10 inches (6"x10") or 12 inches by 20 inches (12"x20").
  • If you have art with different dimensions that fit the theme please feel free to submit it, however, it may be resized or cropped.
  • Register your students artwork find registration steps 1-4 here: Youth Art Month 2022-2023 Student Artwork Registration
  • Registering for this event ensures that you receive all important correspondence, including emails, updates, and PRIZES.

  • Bring your student art to the CAEA Fall Conference at Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge, Colorado on Friday, November 5th between 10 AM and 4 PM. (Drop it off and fill out additional paperwork at the YAM table located near the registration tables @Beaver Run Resort.)
  • If you cannot attend the CAEA Fall Conference, you may send your student work with someone with ALL correct labeling.
  • Any student work that is not correctly labeled will not be hung or judged.
  • Artwork dropped off for the YAM show at the Fall Conference will be taken home by the teacher, you may send someone to retrieve the work or request that it be mailed to you at your cost at the time of conference check-in.

Please Email Alys (Elise) Hansen with additional questions.

  • Youth Art Month level winners will be announced at the Art Auction Friday, November 4th.
  • Artwork will be taken home by the teacher directly from the Fall Conference on Saturday November 5th.
  • Artwork left behind on Sunday morning, November 6th will promptly be recycled.

  • Youth Art Month Exhibition will be held at the Colorado State Capitol in the Rotunda in March, dates TBA.
  • Youth Art Month Student Reception at the state capital TBA

Copies of artwork for the YAM Capitol Show and for the NAEA Convention will be high quality reproductions. The decision to show copied work comes from the experience of managing unclaimed pieces.

It is HIGHLY INCONVENIENT to manage and store unclaimed artwork.

Therefore it will be recycled if unclaimed or abandoned Sunday Nov. 6th.

We are happy to work with you! Exercise good will towards those who take the time to plan and execute this show, as they also have their own programs to manage.

Please Email Alys (Elise) Hansen at for any additional questions or support.
